    Mmm, Wii helps shredding weight?

I was reading the entry on Engadget.com. One guy was doing an experiment with the game called Wii Sports on Wii gaming system. The Wii is by Nintendo. About 20 years ago, I remember I played on Nintendo. I was addicted to Mario game. It was fun. Today, gaming system is very popular. Now they have other gaming system such as Xbox 360 by Microsoft and Playstation III. They are highly competitive. I believe they are going WiFi now. That means you can play games online over Internet with other people.

Anyway, back to Wii Nintendo. That game looks cool. It involves body activity. That is probably why he had lost some weight. He was starting the experiment in December and 6 weeks later, he lost 9 POUNDS! That is not bad. Suppose, he is doing that for another 6 weeks, he would lose another 9 pounds. That is the total of 18 pounds in 2 months and two weeks

Before and after of that guy:

You can watch the video below via YouTube.com.

Maybe I should consider getting Wii gaming system. I want to lose at least 15 pounds. But it is very expensive. I believe it is near 300 dollars. I will have to think about it. IF that really helps, I would seriously consider it. It also kill my boredom if I am bored. ;-) It would be good for me during the wintertime. It is cold and might be snowing outside. I can use time to play and lose some weight. :-D

You can read more about that guy and his Wii Sports experitment here.

I played the boxing game in wii. It gets really tired after awhile.

After playing wii straight for 3 hours, I could definitely feel the pain on my muscle.

Running Nose when Eating Spicy Food

I have been asking the same question myself, too. It does happen every time I ate spicy food…. but now I cannot eat spicy food. Something is wrong with my stomach… yet I don’t know what it is. I have to find out soon.. so no spicy food for a while. *sobbing* I love spicy food, especially Buffalo Wings and Chipotle! Now I undersatnd why! It should help you understand why, too…

Thanks to Yahoo Answers; I copied and pasted below:

    Dear Yahoo!:

Why does my nose run when I eat spicy food?

    Richard
    Pasadena, California

    Dear Richard:

A runny nose seems to go hand-in-hand with spicy food. But why? We love a challenge, so we grabbed a fresh hankie and went in search of an answer. Thankfully, we found one almost immediately.

This post from the Deccan Herald explains that most spicy foods contain something called “capsaicin,” a chemical found in peppers. When ingested, it’s believed to affect “the quantity and thickness of mucus and other fluids secreted in the nasal passages.” In other words, it’s a kind a nasal decongestant.

You might think ingesting a lot of spicy foods would help clear out allergies or a cold. But, according to Organic Authority, you’d be wrong. While spicy food like peppers and wasabi “offers brief relief,” in reality, “your nasal congestion will worsen, making you even more miserable.” That’s because spicy foods cause greater congestion in the long term.

Finally, a quick footnote. While trawling the Web, we learned capsaicin is the active ingredient in pepper spray. So be nice to cops.

    Red iPod Nano

This is a Special Edition iPod nano (PRODUCT)RED. The price is 199.00. It has 4GB. I am thinking about buying one even though I cannot hear but can save my files, pictures and, I think, videos on it. Apple will give $10 of the price you buy to the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa. Nice, huh?

You can check the Global Fund here.

Let’s join and help fight against AIDS!

Correction: There is no video feature can be shown on iPod nano; the original iPod only has that feature.  Also, it does not save files, but you can save photos only. It also has more extra features, like game, clock, calendar, contacts, notes, or stopwatch.

We Should Take Care Of Our Weight

We should take care of our weight managment well. As most of you know that, Obesity is at large in the worldwide. We should excerise regularly. We should watch what we eat. You know it. Hey, I am not trying to preach you here, but you should do it for your health's sake. If don't, you may develop a few serious conditions later in life: stroke, heart attack, and high blood pressure. Get started and take care of yourself!

I thought I would post a few good brochures that we have at AICR (American Institute for Cancer Research) here talks about healthy weight, exercise, and how to decide how much you can eat to maintain a weight constantly.

First of all, we have a newest brochure coming to AICR, called "A Closer At Energy Balance." I find it a good source of Energy Balance. There are some information that I have learned so much. Something that I did not realize after reading that brochure.

Allow me copy a short excerpt from "Energy Balance:"
    *****
Examples of Physcial Activities and Calories Burned

Calories expenditures listed below are approximate for a 154-pound person doing the activity at moderate intensity or speed.

    Aerobics (20 minutes): 150 calories

Ballroom dancing (30 minutes): 155 calories

Cycling at 10 miles per hour (30 minutes): 200 calories

    Gardening (30 minutes): 180 calories

    Rowing (30 minutes): 250 calories

Sweeping the floor (30 minutes): 90 calories

Swimming laps (20 minutes): 190 calories

    Walking (1 hour): 250 calories

Weight lifting (20 minutes): 75 calories
    *****

To read further, go to Energy Balance section, and open in PDF. No HTML, yet. It is fairly new.

Wait, there are more brochures I would recommend you to check out (you click each image to read in HTML or PDF):

Our Newest Brochure Comes Out At AICR

There is a new brochure at AICR (American Institute for Cancer Research; that is where I work) called The AICR Guide to the Nurition Facts Label. It will tell you everything what each of them means on the Nurtition Facts. The Nurtition Fact was required by FDA to label on every food. Back to the brochure, I find it very useful. I thought I would post it here. I hope you will find it useful, too. Many of you know it is very important to know what is in food in order to keep you healthy and maintain your weight well. Now you can read the guide provided by AICR by clicking that image away below:

Update: I correct the link/image code for the thumbnail of the site below–Forgive me for not taking you to the url as I thought, but it was only going to enlarge the image itself! FORGIVE me!

I just found out that they will add Trans-Fats info on the Nutrition Fact Label. The FDA asked Manfacturers to add that to their fact label two years ago by January 2006. 2006 will be here soon. So we will see that info on the label very soon. There is a press release about it by AICR, you can read at AICR’s Press Corner. Also you can learn more about Trans-Fats as well.

Also, I would like to add one more thing… it is for Firefox users (but for others can download a version of Firefox). Firefox is a web browser. First, I want to tell you that I do find Firefox very useful. It has many features. It is much better that Internet Explorer. It has many wonderful plugins/extensions you can use on Firefox. I have more than 30 extensions right now. There is one good plugin you can use on Firefox called Nutrition Fact Label Search to find the nutrition facts on any food you type in the search engine on the top of Firefox (it will explain to you where you can find it before you install it) You can find that extension at

    http://www.nutritiondata.com/firefox-plugin.html.
For others who does not have Firefox, I recommend you to try it. You can download at http://www.getfirefox.com. It is free of charge!

    Have fun!

How Bad Will The Pandemic Flu Be?

    "AS BAD AS 500 KATRINAS"

We have a possible pandemic FLU outbreak, if the deadly virus is not quarantined well. There are cases of Avian Flu or H5N1, which is caused in birds but can be deadly contagious to humans, in Asia and part of Europe. The good news, we dont have any case of Avian Flu in the U.S..

The worst pandemic FLU, which is known as Spanish Flu happened in 1918. It killed over 40 millions worldwide in a year, or maybe much less. Luckily, some scientists found the FLU vaccine. That is why we have FLU vaccines every year. If the human gets this deadly virus, it would spread in the air fast to others. In U.S., alone…"nearly 75 million Americans — one in four — could become infected with this deadly flu."

I read about Avian flu somewhere, said that it has been slight change in strains in the current flu, so the current flu vaccine may not work. I might have read it wrong. Maybe it will work; however, it may not be enough for everyone, if it gets worse.

So far, the flu virus has only killed 69 people and infected 153. In the Asia, flocks of poultry are destroyed.

I hope this deadly flu did not come to the U.S. because it would be a big trouble for all of us. Because it will be as bad as 500 Katrinas. Get yourself prepared for the worst, you never know. It may never happened. But anything is possible. Start to learn about this deadly flu and get ready, in case it happened and where to get help. You can be treated if you get help quick enough. This deadly virus is not fun.

    World AIDS Day

December 1st is World AIDS Day. It is time for us to fight against the HIV/AIDS. We thank Scientists for their hard work to find the vaccine, or cure for HIV/AIDS. Today, we are thankful that we can live longer than 12 years because of 20 current HIV therapy medications today. If it were not for those 20 medicines, we may not live longer than that. Now a few people with HIV are healthy and alive for more than twenty years since the AIDS pandemic began. For myself, I have HIV for 9 years now. I will live for another 11 years, for sure. I have to. I will fight against it until I get a vaccine or cure. ;-)

Unfortunately, HIV/AIDS has not prevented people from getting it through needle sharing, sex intercourse, and breast feeding. Right now there is 40.3 million people are infected with HIV/AIDS worldwide.

According to the The Examiner: Washington, the result is:

    4 children infected every minute
    1 child dies every minute
    72 adults infected every minute
    5 adults die every minute
    25 million dead since 1981

It saddens me to see that 2.2 million children are diagnosed with HIV/AIDS today. They are so innocent. They have to live with it for their rest of lives. They dont deserve that!

Now HIV/AIDS research is around over the world to find the vaccine and cure, yet they need more money to boost their research. It is not cheap. HIV is a very smart virus, they can find ways to “pass behind the firewall.” In The Examiner, it said:

A scientist from Jerusalem who helped to discover the HIV virus said he has made progress toward producing an AIDS vaccine and hopes to launch a clinical trial in about a year.
